The pool is 25 yards long.
We will be using a split lane style for heats, meaning that a lane is split between two participants. One participant will stay on the right side of the lane divider indicated on the bottom of each lane, and the other participant will stay on the left side of the lane divider. We will not be using circle swimming or snake style swimming, so once all participants in one heat have finished, the next will begin.
The pool is 25 yards long, meaning that participants ages 13+ will have to complete 20 lengths of the pool in order to finish 500 yards. For the youth division, 50 yards is 2 lengths of the pool (ages 5-8) and 100 yards is 4 lengths of the pool (ages 9-12). There will be counters at the end of each lane to verify participants' completion of the swimming leg.
You should wear your race number in the pool. You are welcome to wear a swim cap and/or goggles, but they are not required.
Fins are not allowed, however youth participants may wear a lifejacket. For any youth participants wearing a lifejacket, the lifejacket fit must be checked and deemed appropriate by a lifeguard before the participant is allowed in the water.
You are welcome to use any stroke or any combination of strokes that you prefer.
No, the only requirement is that all swimwear attire must be appropriate as per the rules of the Newport Aquatic Center. You can find this information here. The lap pool is kept at about 82°F so participants are not required to wear a wetsuit but are welcome to wear one if they wish.
You’re welcome to use any bike you’re comfortable with—whether it’s a road bike, hybrid, or your favorite cruiser. Triathlon-specific bikes like those from Trek, Specialized, or Cervélo are welcome but not required. Ride what works for you and enjoy the experience!
While we won’t have bikes available to borrow, we encourage all participants to plan ahead and bring their own. If you need help finding a rental or have questions about bike options, feel free to reach out—we're happy to help!
Devices such as scooters, skateboards, etc. are not allowed to be used as modes of transportation by participants during the race. If you have questions or concerns about another type of equipment, please contact us.
